▸Transmission Rebuilds
GM 4L60E-family and 6L80/6L90 are our specialty — that's most of what we build. We can rebuild any automatic transmission as long as you bring us the core. We don't service manuals.
▸4L60E-Family Upgrades
4L60E / 4L65E / 4L70E: every rebuild gets the full master kit plus the upgrades these units are known to need — Raybestos 3-4 Z-Pak clutches (the #1 thing that burns up in these), "The Beast" hardened sun shell (the stock one breaks and takes out reverse, 2nd, and 4th), and a TransGo .500 boost valve and bushing to restore line pressure. Pump and valve body rebuilt in-house.
▸6L80 / 6L90 Upgrades
Upgraded over a stock rebuild: Sonnax billet 1-2-3-4 piston (the factory cast piston cracks), Sonnax center support seal kit, TransGo SK 6L80 valve body kit with TEHCM pressure switch repair, unbreakable pump rings with the pump rebuilt in-house, and the 3-5-R drum replaced if the welds are cracked. TEHCM updated to the latest revision, adaptives reset, fast-learn done after install.
▸Ford 10R80 Rebuilds
10-speed — F-150s, Expeditions, and Mustangs 2017+: these have a known weak spot — the CDF drum that carries the C, D, and F clutch packs. An internal sleeve shifts out of place and bleeds off clutch pressure, causing bump shifts, losing 2nd gear, and slipping that feels like an electrical problem but isn't. The Expeditions are the ones I see fail most. We install the upgraded CDF drum fix in every rebuild so it doesn't come back, and we update the valve body with fixes Ford never addressed.

We pull it, rebuild it, reinstall it, and road-test it. Installed jobs go out the door with a 3-year transmission warranty and 90-day labor warranty — no mileage limit.
▸Carry-Out / Bench Builds
Pull the transmission yourself and bring it in. We rebuild it on the bench and you pick it up — 1-year transmission warranty included.

Phinney Automotive LLC is a transmission shop in McAlpin, Florida. David Phinney personally handles every transmission diagnosis and rebuild — about a decade turning wrenches, and transmissions are all he does.
